  1. The Masters—which features fewer than 100 competitors, making it the smallest of the majors—ends the second Sunday of April and is held annually at Augusta National Golf Club, in Augusta, Georgia.

  2. The PGA Championship is played in May and features a mix of past PGA Championship winners, golfers who have won the other majors, and other qualifiers.

  3. The US Open takes place in June and, because it's an "open" tournament, features a mix of professionals and amateurs.

  4. The Open Championship takes place in July in the United Kingdom and is the oldest professional tournament in existence, a legacy it honors by maintaining some of the sport's earliest Scottish traditions, including the awarding of the Claret Jug, a large, sterling silver trophy.
