Twain grew up in Missouri near the Mississippi River
When Twain (then known as Samuel Clemens) was 4 years old, his family moved to Hannibal, Missouri, a port town along the Mississippi River. Hannibal would eventually be the setting for two of his most famous works: "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."
