The Supreme Court extended the ban on discriminatory jury strikes to include gender in 1994
In J.E.B. v. Alabama, the court ruled 6-3 that using peremptory challenges to exclude jurors based on sex violates the Equal Protection Clause, building on its 1986 Batson decision banning race-based strikes.
