The weight of Earth's atmosphere is equivalent to a 33-foot deep, global ocean

Because air is made up of gas molecules with mass, it is not weightless. On the planet's surface, we are effectively living in what is the equivalent of the bottom of an invisible ocean of these particles pressing against us, just as water molecules do when we are submerged.
