NASA introduces you to the fifth planet from the sun, the gas giant Jupiter. When it comes to our solar system, Jupiter is the biggest kid on the block. Named after the king of the Ancient Roman gods, Jupiter is a planet of storms and chaos, most famously in its Great Red Spot, a hurricane larger than the earth itself.

Evidence for a ninth planet in our solar system

Is there a massive ninth planet on the edge of our solar system? There may be as many as 300 million potentially habitable planets in our galaxy

The estimate comes from a study using data from the Kepler space telescope—a project aimed at finding exoplanets—and considers exoplanets similar in size to Earth around sun-like stars. These have a greater potential to possess liquid water.

The solar system formed between 4.5 and 4.6 billion years ago

Its age is best estimated by studying meteorites from the early formation period of the planetary system, including Erg Chech 002 (4.565 billion years old) and NWA 11119 (4.5648 billion years old). Solar analysis and stellar evolution models estimate the sun's age to be approximately 4.57 billion years.

Our solar system is currently traveling through a 'dark matter hurricane'

The phenomenon refers to a stream of cosmic debris, including stars and dark matter, leftover from a small galaxy that passed too close to the Milky Way and was torn apart. Earth is the only planet in our solar system with fire
