Computed tomography scans use X-rays to create 3D internal images
Just as shadows can reveal the shape of obstacles blocking visible light, the donut-shaped CT scanner measures how X-rays are blocked, revealing the shape of bones, organs, tissue, and other matter along a cross-section. As it rotates, the scanner combines these cross-sections to build a model of the internal structure.
